THOUSANDS of people took to the streets of London on Saturday 13 September to protest about immigration, culture and identity.

CAN I JUST SAY WHAT I LIKE?

The Unite the Kingdom protest passed the Houses of Parliament

The event, called Unite the Kingdom, was organised by far-right campaigner Tommy Robinson, whose real name is Stephen Yaxley-Lennon. More than 100,000 people are thought to have taken part.

But the protest led to violence and arrests. It's made many people ask: what are the rules about protesting and free speech in the UK? Can you say what you like?

Freedom of speech is the right to say what you think. It's a basic right in the UK, and it's the law. You can share your opinions, even if they're unusual or unpopular, and even if they upset or annoy others.
