Bridge set for spring opening as final touches are finished
January 05, 2026
|Lancashire Evening Post
After 18 months on site, staff at Eric Wright Civil Engineering are getting ready to put the finishing touches to Preston's new Tram Bridge.
The Bamber Bridge-based company has announced that it will soon begin reinstating the area and resurfacing the Old Tram Road ahead of the grand opening in spring.
It says these efforts “will restore the route and provide a welcoming approach to the new bridge”.
The final three sections of the 150-tonne bridge have been carefully positioned into place using a 75-metre-high crane with a jib length of 114 metres.

Towers edge closer to demolition
Demolition work is continuing on three tower blocks near Preston city centre. As these new pictures taken by Lancashire Post photographer Neil Cross show, cranes now dwarf the once-landmark structures. Richmond House, Carlisle House and Lincoln House in Avenham are all set to disappear from the skyline - something the two archive photos show they have dominated for decades.
