Why we chase labels to feel seen, and what happens when we stop.
I was 13, standing in front of the mirror, convinced that Eid would only shine if I wore branded clothes.
Not just any shirt, but one with a logo that screamed I belonged. I begged my parents, tying my worth to a tag, believing it would make me strong, respected, whole. Looking back, I realize I was chasing validation in fabric, unaware that the real search was for self-acceptance.
Khalil Gibran’s words hit me years later: “Though you seek in garments the freedom of privacy, you may find in them a harness and a chain.” They stung. Clothes, meant to shelter, can bind us. I started questioning everything. What if the pursuit of the “right” outfit was a trap, pulling us further from who we are? What if, in chasing labels, we're selling our true selves?
