|Kashmir Observer
JAMMU: Jammu is set to make a significant stride in healthcare and biotechnology with plans to begin the manufacturing of anti-cancer and other medicinal drugs, Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh announced on Saturday.
The initiative, being undertaken in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine (IIIM) Jammu and private stakeholders, marks a new chapter in the region's pharmaceutical and scientific development.
Dr. Singh, who represents the Udhampur-Kathua-Doda Lok Sabha constituency, made the announcement while chairing a constituency-level meeting via video conferencing. The meeting was convened to finalize a series of programs commemorating 11 years of the Narendra Modi-led central government.
As part of this major push, a new cannabis cultivation initiative will support the pharmaceutical venture, targeting the production of cancer medications. Dr. Singh emphasized that the project would also boost employment and income through empowerment of Self-Help Groups (SHGs) and the integration of scientific agriculture.
