Electric Vehicles Could Clear Kashmir's Winter Air

The valley is heading into another harsh winter, and life on the streets becomes a daily challenge. Cold roads, traffic jams, and thick smoke from petrol and diesel vehicles make commuting difficult.

Electric vehicles promise a cleaner, greener future, but adopting them in Kashmir comes with real challenges.

Winter here is long and bitter. Temperatures often fall below zero, and snow covers the roads for days. Cold weather reduces battery life, so a car that normally travels 200 kilometres may only manage 120.

Steep hills drain batteries faster. Charging stations are few and mostly in the city centre. Villages and smaller towns remain disconnected, making longer trips risky.
