Who-ing up a storm

MET Eireann is once again urging the public to help name the storms which will hit the country later this year.

Each summer, the Irish national forecaster collaborates with its weather partners at the UK Met Office and the Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute to compile a list of names for disruptive weather events.

Storms are typically named when they could cause 'medium' or 'high' impacts in any of the participating countries.

Storm season spans from September to August and Ireland is expected to contribute around seven of the 21 storm names for the 2025/2026 alphabetical list, which runs from A-W.
