Carlos & Beto on target in cruise for Blues

- BY CHRIS McKENNA

AFTER the fanfare of the grand opening, there was always a chance that this Carabao Cup game could fall a little flat.

But Everton got the job done to ensure there was no slip-up against League One Mansfield Town.

Carlos Alcaraz and Beto scored the goals in a fairly drab game, but at least the Toffees weren't caught up in a sticky situation.

Everton cut the ribbon on their splendid Hill Dickinson Stadium at the weekend, which was a fantastic occasion for the club and its fans.

There were fireworks before that first Premier League game since leaving Goodison Park as the home team enjoyed a significant win over Brighton, but this was always going to feel a bit like after the Lord Mayor's show for the Blues.

Not for the big travelling support of Mansfield Town, of course. They packed out one comer of the stadium for their first game against the Premier League side.
