Three die in Mother's Day road horror

Female passenger loses life in separate afternoon tragedy

TWO women have died in a horror head-on collision that also saw children seriously injured on Mother's Day.

The women, who were in their 40s and 60s, both died when their vehicles collided on the N72 Mallow-Killarney road at around 3.30pm yesterday.

Two children - understood to be passengers in the vehicle driven by the female in her 40s were seriously injured in the crash and were rushed to hospital by emergency services.

The woman in her 60s, understood to be the sole occupant of the other car, was also declared dead at the scene.

Speaking to this paper, Mallow councillor Liam Madden said the community was in shock over the tragedy.

He added: "That part of the road is very wide there so we don't know what happened.
