THURSDAY was World Lizard Day so let's take a look at some facts about these fascinating creatures...

The only lizard species found in Ireland are the viviparous lizard, which is native, and the slow worm, which thought to have been introduced to the Burren region in the 1970s.

The earliest-known fossil records date back more than 200million years, meaning they survived the mass extinction that wiped out the dinosaurs. They also haven't changed much physically in all that time.

Lizards communicate through body language, colours, pheromones and doing push-ups to show dominance.
