SUMMER TO-DO LIST

Most houseplants are in active growth now so need regular watering and fortnightly feeding.

Hot sunny days can cause overheating in the greenhouse - keep vents and windows open during the day and check plants daily for watering. Damp down on very hot days with a hose to increase humidity.

Fruit bushes need lots of water in dry periods to allow fruit to swell.

Plums, pears and apples can be thinned out this month. This happens naturally as well - it's called June drop - but if you want bigger fruit, remove some of the smaller fruitlets.

Ornamental lemon trees can vacation outdoors for the summer.
