'Study my brain'
July 30, 2025
|Irish Daily Star
THE gunman who killed four people in a New York skyscraper was targeting the NFL over a simmering grievance with US football's governing body.
Shane Tamura, 27 - who left a note urging authorities to study his brain after the shooting - drove more than 2,500 miles from Las Vegas to carry out Monday's rampage, before turning his weapon on himself.
New York Mayor Eric Adams said he was targeting the NFL but took a wrong lift once inside the building.
Authorities told how Tamura left behind a note on his body, blaming his mental health issues on chronic traumatic encephalopathy, a degenerative brain condition linked to head injuries in contact sports.
He mentioned former Pittsburgh Steelers player Terry Long, who took his own life in 2006 by drinking antifreeze after struggling with CTE.
The note suggested former football player Tamura also had the condition. It read: “Terry Long football gave me CTE, and it caused me to drink a gallon of antifreeze.
