Rutte denies flattery was 'demeaning'

NATO boss Mark Rutte referred to Donald Trump as “daddy” while defending the US President's foul-mouthed outburst over the Middle East.

The former Dutch PM flattered Trump at the NATO summit in The Hague and praised him for supposedly holding the Israel-Iran ceasefire together.

Trump compared the two nations to “two kids in a school yard,” saying: “They fight like hell, you can't stop them.”

He said: “Let them fight for about two, three minutes. Then it's easier to stop them.”

Mr Rutte said: “And then daddy has to sometimes use strong language to get them to stop.”
