OLE GUNNAR SOLSKJAER is the leading candidate to return to Manchester United in a caretaker role until the end of the season.
United have also held talks with Michael Carrick and Ruud van Nistelrooy — all three are former players who have had spells in charge of the first team.
Darren Fletcher will add to that number when he leads United out as interim head coach against Burnley at Turf Moor tonight and he has also held talks over continuing.
Sacked
United sacked head coach Ruben Amorim on Monday and are set to appoint a caretaker for the remainder of the season, after which they will look to find a permanent successor.
