IRELAND has been swept up in a tide of excitement as one fortunate EuroMillions punter clinched an astonishing €250 million jackpot, claiming the throne as the country's largest ever lottery win.
Lotto chiefs counselled the overjoyed winner with a statement: "Stay calm, get independent legal and financial advice and contact us as soon as they can." Yet this is not always as straightforward as it sounds. One person who found out the challenges of such a big win was Margaret Loughrey from Strabane, Co Tyrone, who previously won £27 million BO LY (€31m) on EuroMillions but later declared that the fortune had "destroyed" her life.
