RUSSIAN WARSHIP FIRES AT YACHT IN CHANNEL

A RUSSIAN warship fired a warning shot at a British yacht - while being monitored by the Royal Navy.

The frigate Admiral Grigorovich is understood to have opened fire in waters between the Isle of Wight and Normandy at around 11.40am yesterday morning.

The UK-registered yacht is believed to be a civilian vessel.

Those on board the yacht contacted French authorities, alleging that the Russian Navy vessel fired warning shots at a distance of around 500 yards.

The shots were allegedly fired around 20 nautical miles south of the Isle of Wight - outside UK territorial waters.
