Star nominated for RTE and BBC personality of the year prizes
RORY Mcllroy has been shortlisted to join a select group of individuals who have won the RTE Sport Sportsperson of the Year award three times.
The Grand Slam winner is one of 12 nominees announced yesterday for this prestigious honour.
McIlroy previously clinched the award in 2011 and 2014, and if successful, he would join fellow golfer Padraig Harrington and boxing icon Katie Taylor as a three-time recipient.
Athletics legend Sonia O'Sullivan holds the record with five wins, including an unprecedented three consecutive titles from 1993 to 1995.
The Masters champion is also the favourite to win the BBC Sports Personality of the Year.
It's been 19 years since a GAA star claimed the award, with Kilkenny hurler Henry Shefflin last winning it in 2005.
