Irish Daily Star

NEW Garda Commissioner Justin Kelly took control of the organisation yesterday - and told his staff it will be a privilege to lead them.

- BY MICHAEL O'TOOLE Crime and Defence Editor

Mr Kelly, who succeeded Drew Harris, conceded that improvements needed to be made in the policing service.

He told colleagues: "I believe in our organisation and am proud to serve alongside you all.

"Whilst we are a great organisation, there are areas we need to improve. It is important we continue to evolve the service we provide to the public.

"We must also strengthen our capabilities to counter rapidly emerging threats in frontline policing, organised crime and national security.

HONOUR

"Firstly, it is an honour for me to take up this role and it will be privilege for me to lead an organisation I am very proud of.
