MCBREARTY: WE'LL NEED TO BE BETTER TO GO AFTER SAM

IT'S a walk he has completed seven times in a decorated county career, twice as captain of Donegal.

- BY PADDY TIERNEY

On Saturday, Paddy McBrearty led his team to back-to-back Ulster SFC titles with an epic one-point extra-time victory over Armagh in Clones.

He walked up the steps of the Gerry Arthurs Stand to collect the Anglo-Celt Cup to the cheers of the thousands of Donegal fans who spilled on to the pitch to join the celebrations.

They'll be hoping he has another set up steps to climb to collect a bigger piece of silverware later this summer.

In order to do so, McBrearty insists they'll need to be better at closing out games from winning positions having twice led Armagh by seven points before Oisin Conaty’s late equaliser forced extra-time.

"That was serious ... in the last minute of normal time, we should have had it in the bag," said McBrearty.

"It wasn't an easy changing room to go into, but, jeez, thank God a couple of breaks went our way there in extra-time and we got over the line.

"But there's easier ways to win games, and that's probably the next step for us — that's something were going to have to look at, because we were seven points up.
