MARVELLOUS McCORMACK TAKES NINTH

FIONNUALA McCormack finished ninth in the women’s marathon and then Efrem Gidey grabbed a top-20 placing in the men’s 10,000m.

Sarah Healy also qualified for tomorrow's 1500m final.

McCormack finished the marathon in 2:30:16. “I was pleasantly surprised,” she said, “Usually I feel like I have to come back to redeem myself but this time I don't really feel like that.”

Gidey (Clonliffe Harriers) battled hot and humid conditions to cross in 19th place in the men’s 10,000m final in a time of 29:30.37.
