LIONS ON A ROAR FOOTING

July 12, 2025

|

Irish Daily Star

ANDY Farrell's Lions have been set the task of being one of the best touring teams of all time - so they had better put their foot down.

Today's clash with an AUNZ Invitational XV marks the end of the two-games-a-week routine with the first Test looming next Saturday.

The gruelling schedule has meant some players backing up consecutive games on a Saturday then midweek and scrumhalf Alex Mitchell will make it six match involvements out of six, including the Argentina game at the Aviva, if he comes off the bench this morning.

The tourists have hardly set Australia alight, although they are four wins from four down under, and today's match is being overshadowed in Adelaide by tomorrow's Aussie Rules game between Port Adelaide and West Coast.

And the best way to get noticed would be to turn over today's opposition, who have 17 internationals in their 23, despite it being the fifth game in 14 days in Australia.

No.8 Ben Earl said: "A big thing that we've been speaking about is being one of the best Lions teams ever.

There are the games where you have short preparation, sore bodies, and are at the end of a tough two-week block.

"You've got some excuses there if you wanted to roll over and not put your best stuff forward.
