DANNY Dyer is moved to tears as he gives the “most open and honest" interview of his life, revealing his wife now controls their finances after his wild youth of drug-fuelled benders and cheating.

In a warts-and-all chat, he also admits he quit EastEnders in sadness over his character Mick Carter's storylines and explains how therapy helped him after every male role model in his life left him or died.

It's part of ITV's four-part interview-style series The Assembly. The questions are asked by a group of interviewers who are autistic, neurodivergent or learning disabled, with no topics off-limits.

Asked if he and wife Jo Mas still have a shared bank account after she emptied it and kicked him out over his behaviour in 2000, Danny says: “She controls everything now.
