TWO Irish diplomats were among the delegation Israeli soldiers fired near in the West Bank.

Tanaiste and Foreign Affairs Minister Simon Harris condemned the incident "in the strongest terms" and said it was "completely unacceptable".

He added in a statement: "I am shocked and appalled at reports that the IDF fired shots in the vicinity of a visit to Jenin yesterday by a group of diplomats, including two Irish diplomats based in Ramallah.

In a statement, Taoiseach Micheal Martin said: "I am deeply shocked and horrified that the Israeli Defence Forces opened fire on a group of diplomats visiting the town of Jenin. Thankfully, nobody was killed or injured.
