CELEBRITY gardener Diarmuid Gavin has called for an Irish green-fingered army to defend the nation’s plants.

Highlighting Ireland's participation in the #PlantHealth4Life campaign, the TV presenter and UN food ambassador for Ireland insisted: “We all have a role to play.”

The campaign is a Europe wide bid to raise awareness of the critical role plant health plays in protecting food, biodiversity, and the environment.
