Whoever put kids' lives at risk at IPAS Centre is a monster

THE deliberate attack on an IPAS Centre in Drogheda was an act of appalling cowardice.

Only the quick response of the brave local fire crew saved children from death.

Who in their right mind would carry out such a horrendous and despicable act?

It seems likely the arsonist was assisted. How for instance did the perpetrator get into the building? Where did they get the materials to start the fire?

Whoever was behind it knew exactly what they were doing. These are questions gardai are trying to get to the bottom of.

It was known around the Georges Street area of Drogheda that this particular building was housing international protection applicants.

The locals could see them coming and going and many of the children had been attending local schools.

There are also questions to be asked about the suitability of the building to accommodate 28 people but that is for the fire safety authorities and the Department of Justice to answer.
