Too hot to handle... experts warn

The glorious July sunshine, water safety advice has been issued.

The Irish Pharmacy Union (IPU) urged people to wear sunscreen and said: "Skin cancer is the most common form of cancer in Ireland and the number of people being diagnosed with skin cancer is rising rapidly. Yet skin cancer is largely preventable by protecting skin from UV rays."

A spokesperson for the HSE's National Cancer Control Programme (NCCP) said: "Enjoying the sun safely means understanding the UV Index, wearing protective clothing, seeking shade during the middle of the day and using sunscreen on exposed skin."

Met Eireann categorised the hottest part of the day to be from 11am to 3pm.
