Foden dedicates derby demolition to memory of boxing legend

- BY JOHN CROSS

PHIL FODEN paid tribute to Ricky Hatton after admitting "I tried my best for him" following the boxer's untimely death.

Former world champion Hatton was a huge City fan and the Etihad gave an emotional minute's applause before kickoff ahead of the Manchester derby.

Foden, also a boyhood City fan, then opened the scoring before Erling Haaland hit a brace as they saw off Manchester United with ease. City star Foden said: “100 percent I had extra motivation going into the game, it was for him and his family and for the people suffering right now.

“The lads gave everything. It wasn't a pretty match but it was all for him.
