Kilkerrin-Clonberne v Moneyglass

- BY GARRY DOYLE

TONY MCCOY was an expert at clearing hurdles. Grand Nationals. Champion Hurdles. Gold Cups. Aintree. Cheltenham. Fairyhouse. No matter where or when, Moneyglass' McCoy knew how to win.

Now, there is another Moneyglass story unfolding. The parish's ladies football team has reached the All-Ireland senior club final.

Along the way, they overcame Kilmacud Crokes, a club of 4,000 members, hailing from Dublin.

The population of Moneyglass? Just 103 people and 38 households, according to the last census.

The gulf in scale, resources, and expectation was enormous. And yet, on the pitch, none of it mattered.

Maria O'Neill, 21, a fourth year Accountancy and Law student, and a player on the Moneyglass team, laughs as she recalls the messages from McCoy (inset).
