Supporters paint town Red to celebrate historic win
IRISH Liverpool fans painted the town Red yesterday as their team won an historic Premier League title with four games to spare.
It means the Anfield team are finally back on their perch after equalling their arch rivals Manchester United's 20 league wins.
And Irish fans of the club say it's even more special given the last time Liverpool won it in 2020 the country was locked down due to Covid-19, and they were unable to gather together to celebrate.
Joey O'Leary, from Ballybofey, Co Donegal, was one of the lucky fans that got to see his team defeat Tottenham 5-1 and claim their win in the league.
He said: "The atmosphere was electric in the city beforehand and in the stadium during and afterward.
"There's lots of Irish here, our flight from Knock yesterday was full of fans going over.
"Match day at Liverpool is on a different level. It's more than just 90 mins, it's about the fun before and afterward. Liverpool is a very friendly city steeped with Irish history, I just love coming here."
SMILES
Irish fans Warren Dunne and Ailbhe Dowling travelled all the way from Dubai to see the Reds in the packed stadium.
And Derry fans Martin Dunne and Liam Quigley were all smiles outside Anfield as they wore their "Liverpool Champions 20 league titles" T-shirts.
David Moen, secretary of Donegal's Liverpool Supporters Club, said it's a dream come true for fans to witness a Premier League win in the flesh.
