Judge recuses himself from sentencing

A JUDGE recused himself from the sentencing hearing of a former council chairman yesterday citing his membership of the charity's committee.

Sean McKiernan (43) was due to be sentenced yesterday at Trim Circuit Court over the theft of €172,000 from Navan Mental Health Housing Association in 2019.

The former Fine Gael head of Cavan County Council was charged with 58 counts of theft of sums ranging between €500 and €7,500.
