Legend Ray insists Ireland can get a result against Portugal but warns players have to believe it when they are told they are good enough to do just that

HOUGH I'D DO THIS

RAY HOUGHTON reckons Heimir Hallgrimsson can put his feet up tomorrow night at the Aviva - because there'll be no need for a rousing speech to get his players motivated for the visit of Portugal.

A place in the playoffs for next summer's World Cup finals is at stake over the final two games of the qualification group phase.

And it could be do or die for Ireland against Roberto Martinez’ side, depending on the outcome of Hungary's game in Armenia, which takes place earlier in the day.

Even though the September results have left Ireland playing catch-up, Houghton remains optimistic that they can get over the line.

"I try to be as positive as I can," said Houghton, a star of Ireland's last appearance at a US-staged World Cup, when he scored the winner against Italy at the Giants Stadium in 1994.

"I don't really think you need a team talk for this one. If you are not up for this, then you shouldn't be playing. It's as simple as that. These next two games are massive. They can determine your career as an international player.
