AFOLABI SETTLES AN AMAZING CONTEST IN RACE FOR SECOND

- BY GARRY DOYLE

THIS was the best game of the year - possibly even the decade.

At the end Derry had four goals and three points, Bohs one mystery they will possibly never solve.

How did they not get something from this game? In the final 10 minutes they had seven clear-cut chances but Derry had Brian Maher.

The Derry goalkeeper may not be the tallest in the league but he acted like a giant here, making save after save.

And he wasn't the only hero. Adam O'Reilly scored twice, Michael Duffy once, Afolabi Akinyemi once.

The latter is new. He’ also a gem, the nearest in style to Liam Coyle that Derry have unearthed in years.

Of course Coyle produced the goods for over a decade and Afolabi has only been here for a couple of months.

But he was brilliant last night, his winning header (right) being the difference between the teams.

Yet so much happened. So here goes.

Bohs took the lead on nine minutes after Carl Winchester mistimed his tackle on James Clarke, persuading referee Rob Hennessy to point to the spot from where Douglas James-Taylor converted.
