O’Gorman hails teen star & can’t wait to see more

- MARK MCCADDEN

FEARLESS, SPECIAL, FABULOUS

AINE O’GORMAN says there is no limit to what her club and country teammate Abbie Larkin can achieve.

The Ringsend teenager caused a stir with her half-hour cameo in Ireland’s World Cup opener against Australia last Thursday.

Larkin’s impact didn’t surprise her Shamrock Rovers teammate O’Gorman, who has lined out both with and against the 18-year-old.

“Obviously I play with Abbie at Shamrock Rovers, so I see it week in, week out,” said O’Gorman (34).

“She is obviously a huge talent. I was sitting beside her on the bench (against Australia and I said), ‘Just go on and play and do what you do’.

“You could see it in her performance, she was fearless. She turned up and probably, you could say, the game changed when the subs were made.

“But she is still only 18, there is lots more to come.”

Larkin’s parents have both made the trip to Australia to watch their daughter in action at the World Cup, so she has no shortage of support both here and back at home in Ringsend.

Around the Irish camp, O’Gorman makes sure that her pal has all the backing she needs to have a successful World Cup.
