Wrexham ready to write a new chapter in their fairy-tale rise through the leagues

- BY JEREMY CROSS

WREXHAM embark on life in the Championship today looking to produce the ultimate Hollywood ending.

The remarkable rise of the Welsh club in recent seasons has been football's equivalent of a movie blockbuster.

No team has ever gone straight from the fifth tier to the Premier League in the history of the national game.

Luton managed the achievement in the space of an impressive nine years.

But in the space of just three, Wrexham have gone from non-League to the Championship.

And should the club, which has sprinkled genuine stardust across the North Wales town, make it to the top flight, the fairy-tale would be complete.

Which would also be quite a return on the £2m investment A-listers Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney (inset) made when acquiring a club in the doldrums in 2021.

Thanks to the immense wealth of the famous duo, who have become known as 'Rob & Ryan' to locals, supporters have seen most of their dreams come true.

There is now a major one within touching distance.

The ultimate one, in fact, but for Reynolds and McElhenney, the hard work starts now.
