To leave or not to leave, that is the question

PETER Auty accuses me of only using the figures that suit me for the 1975 European referendum, which is astonishing considering his curious understanding of how voting works.

Using only official figures rather than those which suit me, the 1975 referendum resulted in 67 per cent of the voters choosing to remain while 33 per cent voted to leave, on a 64 per cent turnout of eligible voters, which is how all elections and referenda are decided.

This means 43 per cent of all those eligible voted remain in 1975 while 21 per cent voted to leave. According to Mr Auty's understanding, however, only 42 per cent voted to stay in the EEC in 1975 whilst 57 per cent did not.
