Hull denied win by late Darlington pen

HULL RUFC produced a tremendous performance and were denied a point only by a late penalty, losing 27-24 at promotion-chasing Darlington who have lost just once all season.

Despite losing the penalty count 17-8 and having a try chalked off for not properly grounding the ball Hull were the better side for long periods of the game.

Darlington opened the scoring when, having won a line out, they used the ball well to send Callum Mackenzie in under the posts with Flynn Ward adding the conversion after just three minutes.

Hull's pack tore into their opponents and Reece Dean reduced the arrears with a well-struck penalty goal after 13 minutes.
