Ashes Test heads to crowd record

THE Ashes opener at Wembley Stadium on October 25 reached ticket sales of 54,569 as of Saturday morning matching the attendance for the famous first Test of the 1990 series.

This year's opening Test between England and reigning world champions Australia could set a new benchmark in the UK, with the current record crowd for a match between the two international giants standing at 57,034, set in the capital in 1994.

The biggest-ever crowd was set in 1932, attracting 70,204 at the Sydney Cricket Ground.
