ALMOST 40% OF OGWEN VALLEY TEAM CALLOUTS ARE TO TRYFAN

- Andrew Forgrave

A 10-YEAR-OLD boy was airlifted to hospital after plunging 10 metres on one of the UK's most popular but also most dangerous mountains.

The youngster and his father were climbing 917-metre Tryfan in the Glyderau range above the Ogwen Valley in Eryri (Snowdonia).

The incident was one of four rescues on the peak over the Easter weekend.

At that point in time, it meant that Tryfan had accounted for 38% of the 49 callouts made in 2025 by Ogwen Valley Mountain Rescue Organisation (OVMRO).

Following two more Trfyan rescues on Saturday, this proportion climbed to nearer 40%.

A man fell five metres and hit his head on the peak's notorious North Ridge (see below), while another injured their arm on the summit.

The incident involving the 10-year-old boy occurred early on April 20.

Having suffered leg and hip injuries, a coastguard helicopter was requested and a winchman was lowered down to the casualty.

"One of our newest trainees, Josie, was close by and she was quickly on scene to help," said OVMRO.

Father and son were both airlifted to the emergency department at Ysbyty Gwynedd in Bangor.
