At 90, the Dalai Lama has won his first Grammy in the Best Audio Book, Narration and Storytelling Recording category.

The political and spiritual leader of the Tibetan community, spread across the globe, described the win as "a recognition of our shared universal responsibility". That said, the political overtones of the award, just as the Tibetan diaspora was voting to elect the Central Tibetan Administration, are hard to miss. Which is why Beijing criticised the award as "anti-China political manipulation". All acknowledge China's rise as a global military and economic power.
