'HISTORIC' PEACE DEAL FINALISED WITH MANIPUR'S UNLF, SAYS SHAH
OLDEST INSURGENT GROUP OF MANIPUR
UNLF IS A PROSCRIBED OUTFIT UNDER THE UNLAWFUL ACTIVITIES PREVENTION ACT
The Union government on Wednesday signed a peace agreement with Manipur-based banned insurgent group, United National Liberation Front (UNLF), a development described by Union home minister Amit Shah as a "historic milestone" that ends the "six-decadelong armed movement".
The peace agreement was signed in Delhi by senior officials of the ministry of home affairs (MHA), Manipur government and UNLF representatives.
"A historic milestone achieved. Modi govt's relentless efforts to establish permanent peace in the Northeast have added a new chapter of fulfilment as the United National Liberation Front (UNLF) signed a peace agreement, today in New Delhi," Shah said in a post on X (formerly twitter).
