INDIA bloc's sole focus was LS elections: Pawar
January 15, 2025
|Hindustan Times
The INDIA bloc was formed to focus on elections at the national level and discussions on "local self-government levels" polls were never held, Nationalist Congress Party (SP) chief Sharad Pawar said on Tuesday, even as he added that the constituents of the opposition alliance in Maharashtra will likely hold a meeting to discuss whether to contest the upcoming municipal elections jointly or separately.
"The mandate for forming the INDIA alliance was to contest polls at the national level. In the alliance, we have never discussed or suggested contesting together at the local self-government level," Pawar told reporters.
Pawar's statement came days after the Shiv Sena (UBT) both Pawar-led NCP (SP) and Uddhav Thackeray's Sena (UBT) are constituents of the Maha Vikas Aghadi in Maharashtra along with the Congress announced that it would contest the upcoming local elections in Mumbai and Nagpur alone.
Pawar also said that discussions regarding the upcoming municipal elections in Maharashtra will take place in the next 8-10 days to decide whether to contest jointly or separately.
