Bihar police seek arrest warrant against Lalu's kin

The Bihar police on Saturday approached a court in Danapur seeking arrest warrant against Tanuj Yadav and Nayan Yadav, both relatives of former chief minister and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) president Lalu Prasad, for allegedly assaulting a government official earlier this week, in an incident described as the "advent of jungle raj" in the state by the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party.

Arvind Kumar Singh (38), the executive officer (EO) of Dhobi Nagar Panchayat in Gaya, was brutally attacked by a group of men led by the Yadav brothers in Gola Road area of Patna on January 16, following which he was admitted to AIIMS, Delhi for treatment to severe head injuries, police have said.

A first information report (FIR) has already been registered against 22 people, including Tanuj and Nayan Yadav - both sons of Nagendra Rai, who is the nephew of Lalu - under sections 307 (attempt to murder), 147 (rioting), 326 (causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapons), among others, of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at the Rupaspur police station.

On Saturday, Rupaspur police moved the court of additional chief judicial magistrate (ACJM-1) in Danapur seeking arrest warrant against the Yadav brothers, saying it was imperative for them to arrest the accused for further action in the case, a senior officer said.
