February 20, 2024
|Hindustan Times
The Dr BR Ambedkar Stadium, the home of football in Delhi, will get an improved facade, new dressing rooms, a cafeteria, upgraded stands and a media centre in a major revamp to be taken up by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, officials aware of the plans said.
Officials said MCD invited bids for the stadium revamp on February 19, for work that is estimated to cost 75 crore.
The stadium, which has a capacity to hold 35,000 spectators, has hosted major national football tournaments such as the Durand Cup, Subroto Cup and Nehru Cup.
A senior MCD official said that the first phase of the project is likely to cost 4.8 crore, and is expected to be completed in months after the project is awarded to a contractor.
"The stadium was last renovated ahead of the Commonwealth Games. Under the latest plan, we will work on the improvement of the stadium facade along the Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg. New facilities will be added for players in the form of construction of dressing rooms. The west stands of the seating area are also going to be revamped," the official said, requesting anonymity
