There's Scope for Corrections if Caste Survey Report Has Errors

Karnataka home minister G Parameshwara maintains that the report on the socio-economic and education survey conducted by the state government tabled before the state cabinet earlier this month is a scientific document.

BENGALURU: In an interview to Naheed Ataulla, the senior Congress leader acknowledges criticism to the caste survey report from certain sections of the society. Edited excerpts:

You have said the caste census report is the most scientific one done. Why are some sections opposing it?

Some communities were expecting their numbers to be high and now feel they have been undercounted. Enumeration of 95% of the population was done in the socio-economic and educational survey and only 5% were left out. The survey was done scientifically using 51 indicators. The report was not arbitrarily prepared and it is not the last word. If there's a feeling that it was done unscientifically, there is scope for corrections.
