BDO Faces FIR for 'Irregularities' in Rural Job Scheme, Caste Remark

Hazaribagh police registered an FIR against Bishnugarh block development officer (BDO) Akhilesh Kumar under various sections of the IPC and SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocity) Act 1989 at Bishungarh police station on the direction of first-class judicial magistrate of Hazaribagh civil court Vikrant Ranjan.

A police official close to the matter said, the court gave direction on receiving a complaint from a representative of Alpitto panchayat member Chameli Devi's representative Bhikham Ram regarding irregularities in the implementation of the rural job guarantee scheme under MNREGA, causing the death of four people of the panchayat.

"Bhikham Ram, through his complaint, informed the court that BDO Akhilesh Kumar used abusive and casteist slurs for those demanding jobs under MNREGA, holding up payment of many schemes sanctioned under the scheme, depriving MNREGA workers of their payment, and causing the death of four of them due to hunger, besides others. He also informed the court that his complaint was neither entertained by police nor district administration. Court on March 19 gave direction for registration of an FIR in the matter. On April 4, FIR was registered," the police official said.
