Untreated sewage affecting water quality of Luni river: RSPCB report

A recent report by the Rajasthan State Pollution Control Board (RSPCB) revealed a concerning picture of severe organic contamination, with high levels of Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD) indicating the river's deteriorating state.

Central to the issue are the Common Effluent Treatment Plants (CETPs) established to treat industrial wastewater before its discharge. Of the nine CETPs in the region—four in Pali, two in Jodhpur, and three in Balotra—only five comply with environmental standards, according to the RSPCB. The remaining four CETPs are non-compliant, allowing untreated or inadequately treated effluent to flow into the Luni River.

Mediation clause can’t block urgent IPR suits, SC rules

When imitation masquerades as innovation, it sows confusion among consumers, taints the marketplace and diminishes faith in the sanctity of trade, the Supreme Court has underlined, ruling that courts cannot insist on pre-litigation mediation in intellectual property infringement cases where the injury is continuing and deception of the public is involved.
