December 31, 2024

Hindustan Times Rajasthan

Amid the ongoing protests, the revenue department on Monday notified the annulment of nine districts and also the abolition of three divisions formed by the Congress government last year, days after the BJP-led Rajasthan cabinet approved it on Saturday, said officials familiar with the matter.

JAIPUR/BARMER:

"Enforcing the clauses 15 and 16 of the Rajasthan Land Revenue Act 1956, the nine new districts are being annulled. They, along with their sub-divisions, and tehsils will be merged to their parent districts. The three new divisions are also being hereby abolished by withdrawing the previous August 8, 2023 order (when the ex-CM Ashok Gehlot notified 17 new districts and 3 new divisions),"" a copy of the order read.

According to the order, Anoopgarh was merged to Sriganganagar and Bikaner, Jaipur Rural was merged to the Jaipur district, Gangapur City was merged to Sawai Madhopur and Karauli, Jodhpur Rural was merged to Jodhpur, Kekadi was merged to Ajmer and Tonk, Neem-Ka-Thana was merged to Sikar and Jhunjhunu, Sanchore was merged to Jalore, Dudu was merged to Jaipur and Ajmer, and Shahpura was merged to Bhilwara.

The development came in view of the upcoming halt to any such delimitation work from Tuesday as the population census will begin from January, an official said.

The Bharatiya Janata Party-led Rajasthan government on Saturday annulled at least nine of the 17 new districts and all three new divisions formed by the previous Congress government ahead of the state assembly election last year.
