{ KANHAIYA LAL CASE } Gehlot questions delay in 2022 murder probe

Former chief minister Ashok Gehlot on Thursday attacked Union home minister Amit Shah over the delay in the Kanhaiya Lal murder trial, questioning why justice has not yet been delivered even three years after the incident.

“This was a heart-wrenching incident that shook the entire nation. We arrested the accused within four hours, yet the case was immediately taken over by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) that same night. We raised no objection, trusting that the central agency would investigate thoroughly. But three years have passed, and the NIA has not even recorded witness statements. The special court does not even have a regular judge,” Gehlot told reporters.

Kanhaiya Lal Sahu, a tailor, was brutally murdered by cleaver wielding two men in Udaipur in June 2022. Gehlot was the chief minister of the state at the time.
