JAN WHOLESALE INFLATION RISES TO 1.81% ON PRICES OF FOOD, METALS

India’s wholesale inflation, as measured by the Wholesale Price Index (WPI), rose to 1.81% year on year in January from 0.83% in December, data released by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry on Monday showed.
The increase was mainly driven by prices of food and manufactured products such as basic metals, electrical equipment, and textiles.Ona month-on-month basis, wholesale prices rose 0.51% in January, the same as in December. The sequential rise was led by manufactured products, even as primary articles and fuel and power prices softened.
