Even an in-form Shahid can't save this predictable story

Underwhelming. That's the one word review of Deva. Eccentric cops have always been a hit with audiences - from Salman Khan in Dabangg to Akshay Kumar in Rowdy Rathore. And Dev Ambre (Shahid Kapoor) has all the makings to join this league. But, the film is a let down.

While the protagonist's name is Dev, the film is titled Deva; is the extra 'A' from his surname, or a clever play on a critical plot point? Unfortunately, this is the extent of the film's cleverness.

The story begins with Dev, a hotheaded star cop in Mumbai, killing dreaded gangster Prabhat Jadhav (Manish Wadhwa). He takes his best friend, ACP Rohan D'Silva (Pavail Gulatie), take credit, but things take a turn when Rohan is shot dead at his felicitation ceremony. An angry Dev starts investigating, cracks the case, and promptly loses his memory. What happens next is the rest of the story.
