Railways to Conduct Departmental Promotion Exams Through CBT

Hours after the arrest of 26 East Central Railway (ECR) personnel for allegedly leaking promotional exam papers, the Railway Board decided that all departmental promotion examinations will be conducted through a centralised computer-based test (conducted by RRB).

In a high-level meeting held with members and chairman of the Railway Board, it was decided to make the exams more transparent and accessible, said a senior ECR official familiar with the matter.

The railways stated that a yearly calendar would be prepared for all the zonal railway exams, including ECR, and the promotional exams would be conducted based on the calendar.

Before the ministry of railway's decision, the departmental promotion exams were held by rail divisions and zones internally, and of late several allegations of corruption and the use of unfair means were reported in these exams.
